Thank you Jade, you have helped to save lives

Martina Devlin, writing in the Irish Independent, yesterday:
JADE Goody has influenced my behaviour. I never dreamed it was possible — I usually change channels or turn the page when I see her face.
Initially I tuned out because I found her depressing — reality TV culture personified is not a pretty sight; latterly it was because I felt sorry for her, living under a death sentence.
But Jade Goody has had an impact on me.
A positive one. Yesterday, her story prompted me to pick up the phone to arrange a cervical cancer smear test — something I’ve been meaning to do for two years.
We all realise prevention is better than cure. But other people get cancer, not us. So taking time out to check on something none of us expects to happen — well, just gets pushed to the bottom of our ‘to do’ lists.

A great round up post. Didn’t realize there had been so much discussion of Jade in the blogosphere. She has certainly succeeded in inspiring debate.

Hi Clare – thanks for your comment. This is only the tip of the ice-berg. There is an astounding amount of Jade blogging going on! People have very strong views on this subject, and opinion is polarised, but at least a debate has been opened up on cancer and dying.

I’ve already made my own thoughts known about Jade in my blog. If what is happening to her helps to save just one life then I think her family will be proud of the way Jade has brought such an awful subject to the forefront of everyone’s minds.
I just read a report saying that she may not make it to the end of the week. God bless her and all her loved ones, but I think your heart has to go out to her two small children at this time. No child deserves to lose their mother at such a young age.
