Curiosity and true interest in others goes a long way, too. I also feel that it is helpful to be curious about ourselves, our reactions, our relationships, our dreams. And then be compassionate to ourselves.

I love this, Marie. I lived those words yesterday when I spent nearly 24 hours with a close family at a fun park. These words should be everyone’s theme song. xx

Love, compassion and kindness… What sweet words. They’re really what the Golden Rule’s all about, don’t you think? “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Last week, my 91-year-old mother, who has dementia, was in the hospital. Nothing was really wrong with her, but everyone kept trying to make her a “heart attack” patient. If it wasn’t so sad, it would have been a comedy of errors. Poor mother. She valiantly tried to make sense of the experience, something even I could not do. While the words “love,” “compassion” and “kindness” weren’t the ones in the forefront of my mind, I struggled to be nice, understanding and grateful with her caregivers, even though their reasoning didn’t make any sense.
