About the Girl
Founded by breast cancer survivor, Amy Bath, About the Girl is an online shop specializing in lingerie and swimwear for ladies post breast cancer.
“After breast cancer, a lumpectomy and mastectomy, I was disappointed with the mastectomy bras available” said Amy. “I could not find anything I felt attractive wearing. I wanted pretty, sexy, quality non-wired mastectomy lingerie that was well designed and comfortable.” And so About the Girl was born.
The business has grown from strength to strength over the last two years, so much so, that last month, a showroom At Forty One was opened in Sussex, England. The opening ceremony was performed by Breast Cancer Care’s director, Diana Jupp, who spoke about the importance of retailers such as At Forty One, for raising women’s self esteem.
Amy’s mission is to provide a haven for women who had been through a similar experience to herself.
It was very important for me to feel confident and attractive after my surgery and I was determined to be able to dress as I always had – in pretty and delicate French underwear. I soon realised that there is very little choice on the market and became resolute to fill that gap with lingerie that makes women who have had cancer feel like the beautiful and courageous women they are.
Although UK-based, About The Girl ship world-wide and to celebrate the opening of their new store, they are offering Journeying Beyond Breast Cancer readers 10% off all swimwear until 15th June 2011. The discount code is OM080611EJM.

What a timely post for me! More than eight years after my bilateral I am finally going next Tuesday to a certified fitting boutique to get some bras and forms that look decent. The bras and forms I have now I got free from the American Cancer Society donation stock. Not cool. And definitely not sexy.
I took only my swim forms to Ireland because I wanted to make sure I had them for the indoor pools at the hotels. The mastectomy swimsuit I wore came from a hospital cancer center store, so it would be nice to get something from a store independent of a hospital. Thank you so much for letting us know about this great shoppe. There is definitely a need, and I love the discount idea. I will check it out for sure.
Thanks a billion. XXOXO, Jan

Sounds like a wonderful place — so rare to find a place that caters to the needs of people whose lives have been turned upside down by breast cancer.
