Weekly Round-Up: The World Cancer Day Edition

Time for this week’s round-up of the best blog posts I’ve read over the past week. These posts touched me, taught me something, and inspired me, so I wanted to share them with you. Remember, if you’ve written a post you’d like readers to see, just leave a comment below.
It’s World Cancer Day today and the theme is #CloseTheGap. While I’m on an extended vacation in the States, the awareness of the treatment gap for cancer patients is striking me more forcibly. It’s terribly hard having cancer no matter where you are in the world, but there’s no denying the harsh reality of limited access to treatment and medications in so many parts of the world. This, coupled with the financial strain it imposes (read Chris’s post on the true worth of cancer care) underscores the difficulties faced by individuals globally.
In her latest post, Megsie addresses the theme of financial toxicity, shedding light on the struggles. However, in this week’s update, she also shares a glimmer of hope at the end of that tunnel.
Abigail offers another glimpse into the roller-coaster ride of life with MBC with its attendant ups and downs.
Janet writes about the side effects of cancer medication.
A post on the SBC blog on the role of genetics in understanding breast cancer.
Jennifer shares good news from her latest mammogram.
Becky has started radiation and at the same time mourns the loss of a friend.
This week, Nancy shares two big changes she has underway.
Carolyn shares more “fun facts” from cardiac research.
Elizabeth‘s recent post on weight loss resonated with me, particularly in addressing the challenges faced during menopause. See also Cathy‘s post on why diet changes are hard and listen to this Our MBC Life podcast episode on body image and diet culture.
Connie is dedicating 2024 as the year of finding your tribe and explores the mental health advantages of being part of a community of like-minded individuals in her blog.
Barbara shares her thoughts on the intersection of spirituality and the journey of breast cancer patients in her most recent post.
Beth‘s latest post is a call for more love and kindness in the world.
Finally this week, by way of the Shine Cancer Support blog, Leeanne has designated the word ‘unity’ as her #OneWordForCancer this World Cancer Day and articulates the reasons behind selecting ‘unity’ as her chosen word for cancer.
What would your #OneWordFor Cancer be? Please share in the comments below.
Until next week,
Yours with much love always
