Weekly Round-Up: The Social Media Day Edition
Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.
Today is #SocialMediaDay – a day to celebrate our coming together in the blogosphere. I’ve been a social media evangelist for the past ten years and I am still as excited by its possibilities today as I was when I sent my first tweet and wrote my first blog. Not only has it been a source of information and support to me as a patient, but it has led me to embrace a whole new exciting career as a social media writer and trainer.
I am so happy that social media has brought us together as a community of shared concern and interests; a community that cares.
So now for this week’s round-up. I’d like to start off this week by introducing a new voice to the round-up – she’s not a breast cancer blogger, but she is living with a chronic condition and her blog has many thoughtful things to say. I think you’ll enjoy Naomi‘s tales of boat living. Check out her blog here.
I loved reading this testament to the strong visionary leader my friend Terri Wingham is and how she created A Fresh Chapter for cancer survivors. If you don’t know Terri’s work, I urge you to check her out. I’m also really excited, because right now Terri is in Ireland, and I get to spend time with her tomorrow.
Nancy features a #MetsMonday guest post by Emily Garnett.
Great advice as always from Terri on the questions a patient should ask about physical therapy after breast surgery.
Having completed her chemotherapy, Sarah is now preparing for the next treatment stage – radiotherapy.
Abigail weighs in on the cancer bell debate, which I’ve been reporting on in recent round-ups.
Janet is taking a sensibly measured approach to losing weight after cancer has taken its toll on her body.
If you haven’t already checked out Karin‘s latest podcast, be sure to do so. Full details on her blog.
Eloquent, moving and beautiful – Ilene‘s latest post on closure and forgiveness is a must-read.
For US readers you will soon be celebrating Independence Day. Barbara anticipates the event with a personal reflection on what independence means to her.
A welcome return for Kimberly after a long absence in the blogosphere with a look back on ten years since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
A lovely gentle rhythmic post from Philippa this week.
Elizabeth is back with a beautiful reflection on finding hope amidst despair and restlessness.
Finally this week, I leave you with a reflective thought from Sue.
This is partly inspired by Atul Gawande’s question for people who are close to the end of their lives: What does a good day look like?
You do not have to wait until you are at the end of your life to consider what makes a good day. In fact, perhaps we should not wait until the end of our lives to consider this question, for we all are on a finite allotment of days.
Until next week,
May you live each day as if it’s a good day
Yours with much love always,
Marie xxx

I feel such high praise from you Marie, for including my post in the company of others who choose to share their hearts with whomever finds comfort in reading their words. Thanks again for your compliment and for creating a supportive community of writers. I can only speak for myself but by knowing one another through honest and eloquent life stories makes me a better writer wanting to express my feelings as well as possible.
