Stories: Alan Rickman
No sooner have we digested the news about David Bowie’s death, than we are hit again by another cancer-related demise. The British actor Alan Rickman has died from the same disease at the same age and in the same week as Bowie. Although most famous for younger audiences as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter movie series, I fell in love with him many moons ago when he starred with Juliet Stevenson in Anthony Minghella’s supremely affecting supernatural romance Truly, Madly, Deeply.
You won’t be surprised to see I have chosen this wonderful quote on stories to remember him by. I imagine him saying these words in that sublimely languid voice he had.
Loved that movie…..I watched it after I had lost my partner and it really lifted me through the sadness as good stories do….thanks for that

Truly, Madly, Deeply was the first shockingly emotional film I saw. It has stuck with me and every role Rickman played since has to stand next to that one! A brilliant actor, lovely man. I can’t quite believe 2016 has got off to this start.

Oh, how I loved that movie, for so many reasons. Not least of which was fantasizing about coming home to find a chamber ensemble playing Vivaldi in my livingroom! What a great clip, Marie. I also adored The Winter Guest. He was brilliant. I think a lot of us who got to see these earlier roles had a bit of a crush on him. So sad. 2016 so far is shattering our hearts. 😦
