Weekly Round Up
Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.
I am delighted to have some of my blogging friends join me this year for the third annual WEGO Health Activist Writer’s Month – a month dedicated to the art of writing about health – check out the contributions by The Pink Underbelly, Yvonne Watterson, Audrey Birt and Renn.
Pasha is sharing an excerpt from her book Third Time Lucky about her time spent in India, a perfect companion to Terri’s latest post on Delhi.
Lois is writing of an anniversary she would rather not “celebrate”.
Nancy has written a guest post on BRCA2 for Hollye Jacobs’ Silver Pen blog this week.
Finding a new oncologist is something that Nancy has written about previously and now Jenn writes about how she also felt the need to do the same.
Lisa Bonchek Adams is writing about the importance of not denying how you feel while at the same time drawing on her reserves of resilience.
It’s okay to be emotional or upset at bad news. Complete denial serves no one. Acknowledging emotions of anger, sadness and fear but still displaying strength, stamina and persistence is what I try to do.
Susan shares her thoughts on that Time How To Cure Cancer magazine cover – also commented on by Andrew this week.
I found myself nodding in agreement reading Eileen’s latest blog where she writes “If there’s anything I’ve learned in my own process that will help another, I owe it to myself and others to share it on my blog”. I think many of us will agree that is a huge part of our motivation in blogging too. Eileen also goes on to say that often what hurts us most deeply is least written about online and I was reminded of how those who do write about these things do us all a great service…like Beth’s incredibly moving poem on the pain of infertility.
The Cancer Curmudgeon shares Dave Grohl’s SXSW Festival Keynote Address, calling it ” one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard” while Debbie shares Roger Ebert’s inspirational TED talk on how he had to reinvent the way he used his voice after cancer stole his ability to eat and speak.
Both Rachel and Candida are tackling the issue of insomnia on their blogs this week, while Diane shares her way of breaking the news of her cancer diagnosis to her co-workers.
AnneMarie is writing passionately and with a sense of urgently about the potential impact of sequestration on research funding.
Powerful writing at The Sarcastic Boob on the pink ribbon culture.
Elaine is visiting her home town and writing about the experience in haiku form.
Samantha shares her story of being a young cancer survivor in Chris’s Cancer Community blog.
A moving tribute to Donna Peach and the power of community on Dr Deanna Attai’s blog.
A warm welcome back to the blogosphere to Jamie after her blogging hiatus and to Philippa after her trip back home to Scotland. And a welcome back of sorts to Kathi, who hasn’t blogged in quite some time, but explains beautifully in her latest post why that is.
So much of my life has been interior these past five years. Now, it’s time to get outside of myself again. I’m giving myself permission to remember who I am, a woman who is not just a cancer patient.
Finally, lots of great links of interest on Dr Ann Becker Schutte’s mid-week balance and one quote in particular stood out for me from author Tara Brach:
Our path is to realize the vast oceanness of our being, and to cherish the waves that appear on the surface.
That’s the quote of the week for me and something I will be meditating on in the days to come.
Until next week.
Yours with love
Marie xxx
