Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses
your understanding.
ven as the stone of the fruit must break, that its
heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the
daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem
less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart,
even as you have always accepted the seasons that
pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the
winters of your grief.Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within
you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy
in silence and tranquillity:For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by
the tender hand of the Unseen,And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has
been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has
moistened with His own sacred tears.

This is so beautiful. I have read snippets of this recently posted as quotes online but didn’t realise it was a complete poem – very healing – thanks so much for sharing it with us

My favorite part is “Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy
in silence and tranquillity.” i struggle with the idea of taking the pain & heartache full-on so that it can pass. I will be visualizing silently and tranquilly working through it. Marie, this is just perfect for a Mindful Monday in which I’m licking my wounds after a weekend fight with a longtime friend. While I know in my heart of hearts I was right to speak out against her hurtful actions, I’ve felt battered these last couple of days. The Prophet was just what I needed!

I love Gibran. Thanks for sharing this. What touched me this morning is “Accept the seasons of your heart.” When one is old, it is easier to see the seasons one has passed through. Perhaps the operative word is “passed.”

The image is so striking – it reminds me of waking up after treatment, feeling like myself again. Thanks for this mindful moment.
