RIP Donna Summer
How sad to hear of the passing today from cancer, of the wonderful queen of disco, Donna Summer.
Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, the 5-time Grammy award winner passed away this morning in Florida.
I can remember as a child being mesmerized by her dazzling and glittering performances on Top of the Pops. “On The Radio” was, and still is, my favorite Donna Summer song.
I just read this quote from Donna Summer and thought what a great way to have lived your life. I hope when it comes my time to go, I will be able to say the same thing.
Because I’m just an ordinary person that did some extraordinary things.
Aw, so sad to hear that – she was one of those wonderful disco queens I grew up to. This is my favourite Donna song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3rEzI0PtPA

This is a great one too – plus the dancers are both ridiculous & fabulous.

So sad. Although I don’t recognize her name, I feel the pain in your words. Another loss. Another casualty from cancer.

I’m sad to hear that!
At the peak of her fame, she and I tried on hats together at Bergdorf Goodman’s in NYC, like we’d been girlfriends for ever. She’d say things like, “This one looks better on you than it does on me,” and without saying “You’re Donna Summer,” I said, “You’re not going to be low profile in a big purple hat!” I remember she laughed and said “You’re right, but my daughter would love it.” She was genuine and sweet.
XOXOXO,
Brenda

I’m sorry to read this news, it’s so disheartening to see cancer claim another great person. But we are lucky to have her music – it’s a wonderful gift to leave behind in this world.

Donna Summer was such an amazing artist and a beautiful person. She is in a better place, but I know this must be hard for her family. With stories like this we need to read uplifting ones on courage and overcoming this disease such as Judith L. Pearson’s book, It’s Just Hair: 20 Essential Life Lessons, which imparts thought provoking lessons in courage, humor, patience, acceptance, stress management and more: http://courageconcepts.com/

You know, she was like one of my home girls. We both lived and grew up in and around Boston, around the same time. So we Bostonians were really proud of her. Consequently, this news hit me hard yesterday. I always admired her for keeping her personal integrity in the midst of the crazy fame & the trappings of the constructed public image she had to adopt as a performer. And it was always fun to hear my own accent when she was interviewed. 😉 She’ll be very much missed.

Did you know Kathi that she also had her own struggles with depression? I only discovered that recently and it made me feel even more connected to her..not as much as YOU though 😉
