On meeting my imaginary friend
Someone posted this cartoon on Facebook this week and it made me smile. I’ve often heard the argument that Facebook friends, if not quite imaginary, are the next best thing to it. I’ve written here before of what a delight it has been to meet these (imaginary) friends in reality and how much I look forward to meeting more in the future. (I just love what Lani has to say about taking online friendships offline “It’s like twitter allows me to preview friends.”)
I met another of my Facebook friends today for coffee and I want to introduce you to her. Her name is Marian and she is the author of Dairy Free and Spelt Living . It was really interesting to hear Marian’s story and her journey to living dairy and wheat free. I have a copy of her latest cook book and while I don’t have any food intolerance, I am always on the look-out for healthier recipe ideas.
Next month, I shall be interviewing Marian for Journeying Beyond Breast Cancer, and she has promised to stop by to answer your questions on living dairy and wheat free. So if you have a dairy or wheat intolerance, or you are just interested in learning more about eating a healthier diet, then do keep an eye out for Marian’s interview. Oh and did I mention, she will be giving away a copy of her latest book, Dairy Free and Spelt Living too!
And if you can’t wait until next month, then why not check out Marian’s blog Spelt for Choice, where you will find lots of great recipes and nutritional tips for living a healthier lifestyle.
How lovely that you met your “imaginary” friend and it all turned out so well 🙂

This is perfect timing for me – I have a packet of spelt flour in my cupboard and am wondering what I should make with it – hoping Marian can give me some ideas 😉

I have started on a similar journey of dairy and wheat free living and it’s been tough. The best way for me to cope is to plan my meals in advance – it makes things less stressful for me. I wonder if Marian would agree with this?

I am not lactose intolerant but since my diagnosis of breast cancer, I have become increasingly concerned about dairy products in my diet and would like to eliminate them, as I would be worried that there is a link between dairy and breast cancer.

Thanks so much for introducing us to Marian, Marie. These recipes and her advice promise to be intriguing. Like Marian, I met you on facebook as a not-so-imaginary friend and had the pleasure of meeting you in person. I am finding that facebook can be a source of great pleasure, but also a source of great pain. Breast cancer friends like you and so many other bloggesses are the pleasure points, the cathartic massage of the social network. XOXO

Awesome! I have been dairy and gluten free for over three and a half years. I cheat on the gluten front for special occasions…and boy do I pay the price. I look forward to Marian’s recipies. If it is something you decide to continue with, I have two very close friends who are both authors in the same genre; Robb Wolf (www.robbwolf.com) is the science behind the switch, and Sarah Fragoso (www.everydaypaleo.com) is an amazing woman with a cookbook and successful blog full of recipes. Good luck! And I look forward to more GF/DF info!

Thanks to your for the wonderful comments. Looking forward to the interview with Marie – hopefully you’ll all gain at least one useful bit of info. Also a special thanks to All Things Caregiver for sharing the two links to your friends- will check out their blogs. Yep I have no choice but to continue with it as if I waiver and eat dairy or wheat i become too ill. I’ve found though once I accepted that I had to change my diet then my mind/eyes (or both) opened up to all the wonderful other foods that were around me all along. Marian
