Weekly Round Up
Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blogs which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Just click on the highlighted links to read the posts. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.
Hang onto your husbands! Brenda has a very interesting discussion going on her blog this week – the subject of husband stealers – those women who see a diagnosis of breast cancer as an opportunity to make their move.
Philippa is celebrating another milestone – a year since she finished radiotherapy and speaking of completing things, Nancy is reflecting on finishing lines this week.
Lauren’s latest post resonated with me deeply this week, as her blog usually does. Her words”I didn’t realize how scared cancer had made me. I didn’t know this until much later” will find resonance with many of you I am sure. She writes eloquently of the hidden sorrows and fears we carry, those the world don’t see. “People think survivors enjoy breast cancer events, or find each other online because we have a common diagnosis, but I think it is more the nonverbal understanding of the shared darker moments, those that we have never spoken out loud, which bond us so.” It is such a moving post which brings up a lot of issues and I encourage you all to read and comment.
I absolutely love Jan Hasak’s latest post on smelling the roses. She asks a great question – how do we keep the feeling of gratitude and positivity alive?
Sarah is writing about puffins this week..yes, puffins! And no, it has nothing to do with breast cancer but then we don’t always want to define ourselves just as bc survivors do we? I read through this entire post wondering how she will link this to breast cancer and then wham! it has nothing to do with breast cancer – a nice little reminder that we are so much more than our diagnosis and so much more going for us in our lives!
Sarah often writes beautiful nature posts and if that appeals to you as much as it does to me, then read this gorgeous nostalgic piece on Butterflies from 52 minus 4. And in one of my other blogs (yes, another one!) I have also been reflecting on what I have learned from watching the starlings who built their nest in our garage this spring.
Finally, my lovely friend Debbie has written a beautiful post celebrating the longest time she has been (officially declared) cancer free. I would like to leave you this week with a quote from Debbie, which seems like the perfect note to end another week of blogging.
Breathing in I know today is a gift, and I have to be HERE to live it.

Some wonderful blogs. Can I just share this link please. It’s for a beautiful book in aid of the Irish cancer society.

I’m glad you enjoyed the butterflies 🙂
I’m afraid all I’ve learned from the starlings in my roof is that the mornings are noisier, but that seems enough to have learned for now 😉

They sure are noisey those starlings…not like the gentle butterflies 🙂

So many great posts this week. Thank you so much for including me. I so loved Sarah’s piece about puffins. She brought that part of the world alive for me, and yes, a reminder that live goes on, and we should be smack in the middle of it. I live in an isolated part of Texas, so I need to do a better job of getting back to the business of living, not just running James’ business and BreastCancerSisterhood. I am meeting a girlfriend for dinner Saturday, then we’re going to a play, Ibsen’s “Hedda Gabler,” so that’s a good start.
XOXOXO,
Brenda

Dear Marie,
Thank you so much for including my blog among so many distinguished posts. I much appreciated yours on dealing with difficult people, including the lively conversation that ensued from it. And Brenda’s on hanging on to husbands. I love Debbie’s quote at the end, and all blogs on nature. Great job!
I’m soon heading off to a county fair with a girlfriend in a short bit. Haven’t been to a fair in a long time, and need the respite.
XOXOXO,
Jan

What a delight to wake up to Marie.
Firstly, thanks so much for including me – I am delighted to be in such great company.
I would also like to say just how much I love the flavour of the round up. I love the posts about nature, appreciation, memory, reflection……. These really capture what I feel is living life through the breast cancer lens – where it is part of us, defines us to a certain extent, but does not dictate. Lots of food for thought.
Just wonderful – thanks so much.
