Words to live by…all year long
As many of you know I love quotations. I post them daily on the JBBC facebook page first thing each morning. I find they are a wonderful focus for the day.
I was thinking of some of my favorite quotes this morning and if I was asked to choose just one to guide me for the coming year, what would that be? I find it hard to think of one, although I do know that one that moves me each time I hear it is the Mary Oliver quote:
What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
I get chills every time I hear it.
Another of my favorite quotes comes from that little wise bear, Winnie the Pooh. It is one that I have had to tell myself many times over the years, when feeling overwhelmed with fear and anxiety.
You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
And when it comes down to it, it turns out that truly we are.
Or how about this from Guillaume Apollinaire
Come to the edge. We can’t. We’re afraid. Come to the edge. We can’t. We will fall! Come to the edge. And they came. And he pushed them. And they flew.
Now over to you. If I asked you to choose an inspiring quotation to live your life by this year, what would that be?

I love this idea Marie. Here are a few quotes I just read last night that really spoke to me where I am right now and where I want to go next on my journey. I found them in the book “Simple Abundance” by Sarah Ban Breathnach.
“Pray that your journey be long,
full of adventures, full of awakenings.”
-from the poem ‘Ithaka’ by Constantine Peter Cavafy
“The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning.”
– Ivy Baker Priest
Happy New Year to you! Love, Debbie

This is a wonderful idea,Marie. I collect some quotes that I see in the newspaper and some I don’t know where they came from.
“Do not wait; the time will never be just right. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.” –George Herbert,English Author, 1593-1633.
Always try to do the next right thing.

Marie, I love those quotes. I knew the Pooh one, but I had never come across the Apollinaire quote. It’s very powerful, and of course, true. It’s always the first step that’s not only the hardest, but the one that holds us back so often. Thanks for posting and reminding me it’s worth taking that step.

Thank you Marie, I too love quotes, and these were wonderful 🙂
I have a few that come to mind, but this is sort of a “mantra” that I do read frequently….
“When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.” Pauline R. Kezer
