When Someone Deeply Listens To You
When someone deeply listens to you
it is like holding out a dented cup
you’ve had since childhood
and watching it fill up with
cold, fresh water.
When it balances on top of the brim,
you are understood.
When it overflows and touches your skin,
you are loved.
When someone deeply listens to you
the room where you stay
starts a new life
and the place where you wrote
your first poem
begins to glow in your mind’s eye.
It is as if gold has been discovered!
When someone deeply listens to you
your bare feet are on the earth
and a beloved land that seemed distant
is now at home within you.

Marie thank you for that wonderful poem. An instructor I had way back when said “If I give you a good listen, you will get it back in return.” That has never proven out wrong for me! I am appreciating Poetry more and more. Thank you

I was half-expecting to read the one I requested you a fortnight ago. 🙂
To me Deep listening is perceptive. Mostly because it not only involves listening to what others have to say, but at times to your own inner voice as well.
Deep listening happens on a telepathic, cerebral, subliminal plane. When the mind is poised & uncluttered & listens past the essence of what the words and feelings points to.
Deep listening is effortless, similar to listening to your favourite track, or humming along while you are happily engaged in another activity. We let our emotions dominate our senses and carry us beyond the realms of physical sentiments and realization.
Deep listening also affects the speaker. The bond is formed instantly. To the speaker, it is an implicit acceptance of the spirit and gist of his ideas. A connection of two minds.

A simple, but profound poem nevertheless

Love the poem, but adore that picture..it is fantastic. Just look at the expressions on the old guy’s face – the one who is listening…he is giving his full attention to the guy talking..it is just brilliant!
