Suggestions for sugar-free treats

Pam Stephan recently wrote a piece exploring the truth of the cancer loves sugar adage. Since then, I have been thinking a lot about how to substitute sugar in recipes and I am working on some ideas. Any suggestions out there? I realise it can be a bit of a hit and miss affair, so your suggestions on what works for you would be of great benefit to us all in our quest for a healthier lifestyle.

I pretty much have the healthy meals sorted, but I fall down on those times I just want a sweet treat or a dessert. What’s even harder is that I am married to someone with a raging sweet tooth and I have a love of baking, a fatal combination, especially when you add in a nurturing people-pleaser personality (mine!).

So, while I am working on some new ideas, here is a link to a recipe for baked apple custard, a variation on a traditional baked custard. You can make it guilt free as the sweetness comes from dates, not sugar.
