Healing through art

I have just finished reading an inspirational interview in the Limerick Post with artist, Georgina Glesson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.

Since then, she has had many medical complications to deal with, including being diagnosed with lung cancer, but continues to paint. When asked by Limerick Post journalist, Alexandra Ryan, where did her strength come from to overcome her medical challenges, Georgina simply replied: “Art. When I was in hospital my eyes were so bad that I couldn’t see. I lay there thinking all day. I knew if I didn’t recover there and then that I would never leave. I wanted so much to see art, to create art, nothing was going to keep me in that hospital bed.”

This evening (Friday, 8 May) she will be holding an exhibition of her work  at Enable Ireland, Quinns Cross, Mungret, Co Limerick, starting at 7 pm.
