I have been reading several interesting studies on the benefits of reiki as a complementary therapy in the treatment of cancer.   Reiki is a Japanese form of  healing therapy that is delivered through the hands. The word Reiki means “universal life energy.”  Reiki aims to balance the flow of this energy and  stimulate the body’s healing abilities, while promoting a feeling of deep relaxation and well being and decreasing levels of anxiety.

Despite some claims to the contrary,  there has as yet been no definitive scientific study to show that Reiki is effective in treating the physical symptoms of any disease. However, from my own experience Reiki offers huge benefits in terms of dealing with  the psychological and emotional effects of the disease. Reiki is already used in many cancer hospitals in the United States, including the world renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as a treatment management tool.
