Weekly Round-Up

Time for this week’s round-up of the best blog posts I’ve read over the past week. These posts touched me, taught me something, and inspired me, so I wanted to share them with you. Remember, if you’ve written a post you’d like readers to see, just leave a comment.

I’ve always loved the opening line of the poem To Autumn – “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” – written by the English Romantic poet John Keats. It beautifully describes the sights, sounds, and sensations of the autumn season. Connie‘s post, “Seasons of Harvest” brought this cherished poem to the forefront of my mind as I read it this week.

Of course in the breast cancer world, October is also the season of breast cancer awareness month (BCAM) and pinkness – a season which unleashes much frustration in the breast cancer blogosphere. As Terri writes, “Some of the very products that slap the pink ribbon on their merchandise contain chemicals known to increase the risk and occurrence of breast cancer.  A bit unsettling, right?” This year Terri has a new pink ribbon to wear – learn more on her blog.

BCAM is complex and there is still a lot to say about awareness raising and how it falls short. However, there is gratitude too as Julia writes in her latest post.

Every October, Our MBC Life marks Breast Cancer Awareness month with a special “We Remember Episode” to honor those lost to MBC the past year. What’s so touching and beautiful is the call out to join in by recording a memory, story, or speaking the name of a loved one lost to MBC. You can do so here.

Finally, if you read nothing else this week, I highly recommend checking out Abigail‘s thought-provoking article about informed consent forms. I recently underwent surgery, and I’m now feeling regretful about not thoroughly reviewing the consent form before signing it. After reading Abigail’s post, I will always make it a priority to carefully read such forms in the future.

Until next week,

Yours with much love always
