Ubuntu
Thanks to all of you who read and commented on yesterday’s post on grief. Once again I am struck by how much strength and comfort we can draw from each other. We should never be afraid to show our humanity and vulnerability and to reach out to others in the same spirit. President Obama’s words at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in South Africa yesterday reflects this beautifully:
Mandela understood the ties that bind the human spirit. There is a word in South Africa – ‘Ubuntu’ – that describes his greatest gift: his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others, and caring for those around us.
I am grateful for the invisible ties of Ubuntu that bind us all together in our humanity across the globe.
Beautiful! I’m happy to be united with you through our blogs!

Lovely, Marie. The ties that bind securely hold us together, no matter what comes.

Ubuntu…. Ubuntu…….. I love it, I love the meaning and the spirit of this word and I love the fact that it resonates so strongly. It unravels the mystery of why we feel such strong connections, especially in our breast cancer online community where the invisible and visible come together in one essence – Ubuntu. Wonderful. Thank you 🙂
