Weekly Round Up

girl_with_lassoTime for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.

“Breast cancer is not cute. Breast cancer kills people. ” The Telling Knots blog has been passionately railing against “the trivialization and sexualization of breast cancer” – a topic close to many of our hearts and pens.  Similar themes are cogently taken up by both Elizabeth in her wonderfully titled blog My Eyes Are Up Here, and in the Cancer In My Thirties blog.

With so many strongly held beliefs in the blogosphere we inevitably come up against those who don’t agree with our point of view. So how do you deal with criticism online? That’s the thoughtful subject of Julia’s blog post on Dealing With Bad Reviews.

Anne Marie‘s committed activism has jumped up a notch with her admission to the scientific board of Consano – a newly established platform that enables you to donate any amount (small or large!) directly to a medical research project that matters to you. It’s an innovative and important crowd-funding initiative and I am excited to see Anne Marie on board.

Philippa is planning a trip – one that will encompass  “rest, healing, recovery, discovery and revitalisation”. She writes so lyrically of her plans that reading her latest post transported me to another world.

Laura has entered the world of online dating after breast cancer, and has opted for the brutally honest approach.  Read how prospective suitors responded in her latest Huffington Post article.

Elsewhere in the blogosphere…

Nancy is lifting the lid on The Dark Side Of Aromatase Inhibitors.

Beth and Ari are mourning the death of their cat Chester.

The Pink Underbelly has moved into a new home.

Victoria has some sage advice on what really matters in life.

Elaine is considering undergoing genetic testing.

Audrey has been reflecting on the legacy of the NHS in the UK as it turns 65.

Eileen has a great Rumi quote on our wounds.

Yvonne has been celebrating Independence Day.

Catherine has been celebrating her birthday while still in limbo over her latest test results. Our loving thoughts are with you Catherine.

Thoughts also go out to the wonderful Scorchy who has been struggling with pain recently, but still managing to knit and bitch through it all 😉

Finally this week, you know one of my favourite things about writing our blogs is when we make a soul connection with another blogger. I love the story of how Flo of The Perks of Cancer and Susan of The Savvy Sister blogs hit it off in the blogosphere  – and I have my own happy story this week of meeting with another Susan – Susan Zager of Advocates For Breast Cancer. Here we are in the beautiful surroundings of Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.

Until next week.

Yours with love
