For those of us who have found in social media an incredible way to research, learn and connect on a global level.
Well you all know how passionately I feel about this topic!
I recently wrote a guest article on how I believe blogs can provide a new framework for a richer understanding of the lived experience of breast cancer survivorship, which was published online today in The International Journal Of Public Health. I think on blogs people are more honest in expressing how they feel and what they are going through than in any other way of communicating with healthcare providers

Marie, I forgot to mention earlier that your article is excellent. I’m so glad to hear another voice speak about the aftermath of cancer. The “What Now?” Effect, as I like to call it. While going through chemo was extremely difficult, what followed was just as difficult in a different way — finding the way back to “normal.” I, for one, am stoked that I not only get to connect with others on the internet, but that here I am in California conversing with another in Ireland. Just with a click!

Yes, yes and yes again! This made me laugh out loud. Or should I say lol 😉 The human condition, and the global irresistible nature of cute kittens! And then your excellent article on the power and potential of the internet and friendships. REAL friendships with strong emotional connections. And the quote which struck me (and which I am going to refer to in the future I am sure. Probably even tomorrow…) on the fact that a cancer diagnosis brings a life changing perspective. That line in the sand. “A cancer diagnosis is not just a single event with a defined beginning and end, but rather a diagnosis initiates a survival trajectory characterized by on-going uncertainty, potentially delayed or late effects of the disease or treatment, and concurrent psychosocial issues that extends over the remainder of a person’s life.” So so true.
And as for my take on internet and the friendships and connections it enables, well you know there is a heap we have to say (and a heap already said)
