Weekly Round-Up

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s blog roundup.
Tomorrow is St Patrick’s Day, Ireland’s national day of celebration. You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate—I always think on this day, there’s a bit of Irish in everyone. Connie shares memories of her solo trip to Ireland and the encounters that restored her faith and hope.
From Ireland to the artist’s studio, Beth details her enthusiastic first attempt at alla prima oil painting, a technique involving applying wet paint to wet paint to complete a piece in one session.
Barbara discusses how a breast cancer diagnosis profoundly impacts relationships, emphasizing the importance of open communication, redefined intimacy, and community support.
Becky explores the loaded concept of “prevention” in the context of cancer recurrence, highlighting the idea of “healthy privilege” and the “Spoon Theory.” She argues that “prevention” can feel accusatory and misleading, as it suggests control over outcomes that are often beyond individual control.
In his latest post, Chris tackles the topic of cancer disability discrimination.
Cathy highlights the connection between heart health and breast cancer survivorship and advocates for a heart-healthy diet that also supports breast health.
The SBC blog provides a comprehensive list of essential questions to ask your doctor after a breast cancer diagnosis.
Suzanne shares a reflection on five years since her breast cancer diagnosis.
Season 10 of the OurMBCLife podcast has landed. Dr Debu Tripathy, breast oncologist at MD Anderson joins to discuss advances in endocrine therapy, targeted treatments, and more.
Finally this week, Carolyn encourages us to embrace “wallowing” as a healthy emotional release, particularly during challenging times, rather than suppressing our feelings.
Martha reflects on the challenge of trusting her body after a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis, and while she may not fully trust her body as before, she is actively working to rebuild that trust and enjoy life.
As we journey through this week, let’s carry these stories of resilience, hope, and connection with us. May they remind us of the strength we find in community and the importance of supporting one another through every challenge. Wishing you a week filled with compassion and connection.
Much love

Thank you dear Marie and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and all of your readers in Ireland – and far beyond your beautiful shores!
Thank you for including my post on “constructive wallowing” this week (or “wallowing with GUSTO!” as an old friend of mine likes to recommend!) I was so inspired by Dr. Gilbertson’s column in ‘Psychology Today’ on the mental health benefits of wallowing – or, as she says:
“There is one thing even worse than wallowing in that rotten feeling, and that is NOT wallowing in it.”
kind regards,
C.
