Weekly Round Up: The Let’s Talk About Depression Edition
Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.
The shock wave of grief and pain felt when the news that Robin Williams had taken his own life reverberated throughout the blogosphere this week. Many of you took the opportunity to speak out honestly and openly about your own struggles with depression, like Tami, Lara, Justine, Yvonne writing about her husband, and Tric about a valuable lesson she learned when nursing an elderly lady.
As we speak (or write) the truth we go a long way to breaking the silence which perpetuates the shame and stigma of mental illness, a point made by Kathleen Hoffman on the Medivizor blog.
Elsewhere in the blogosphere
Jackie has created a list of her best tips to get through chemo, while Debbie shares her tips on creating the comfort of home wherever you go.
Join Anne Marie in supporting MBC awareness – here’s how.

Menopause, fertility, cancer oh my! All topics for discussion on Elizabeth’s blog this week.
Jennifer has an update from her latest scans and while the news is good it is bitter-sweet as she hears news about her friend Brigid.
A terrific post by Beth on finding meaning and discovering faith through her illness.
Nancy has a question on her blog this week. Do you ever wonder why you got cancer? Join the discussion here.
Advice from Helen on boosting your lymphatic system.
Lisa has a review of Breasts A Natural And Unnatural History by Florence Williams on her blog this week.
Ann Marie Otis looks back on two years since her mastectomy.
A must-read post from the Breast Cancer Consortium blog on avoiding the breast cancer “Warrior” trap.
Jamie is talking nipple tattoos.
A delicious recipe for fruit crisp from Victoria and tasty sesame nori chips from the Pink Kitchen.
Finally this week, one of the excuses we sometimes use to avoid exercising, is that we aren’t fit or well enough to take it on. Knot banishes that excuse with her latest blog. It’s a motivating must-read on the benefits of exercise.
Until next week,
Keep on moving!
Yours with love

There are some great posts here about depression. Thanks for sharing them. I have run out of time this week for blogging but like so many my thoughts have been on this subject. I wasn’t sure I had anything to add…..other than I too have visited the dark and its the scariest place I have been. The more we talk out the better it will be for others. Thanks to all of you who have done this. Depression is a very cruel condition which needs to be taken seriously at all levels. Audrey xx

What a great post. You are so good to add so many links (my own included) and through these posts I’ve met some amazing bloggers.
This subject was all over the net last week, it is good to read so much on the topic, surely it can only help.
Thanks again Marie.

I know what you mean Audrey about feeling there’s nothing new to add sometimes to topics that are as Tric says all over the net – however, just the fact of adding your voice here is an important contribution to a discussion that we must keep working to shine a light on.
