Weekly Round-Up
Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.
We’re marching right through “Pinktober” and I’m with Nancy in saying that while I feel I am seeing a little less pinkification this year, there’s still a lot of work to be done in reclaiming breast cancer from marketing hype. I was delighted to be able to gather the thoughts of the breast cancer community together for my latest Patient Empowerment article on the other side of pink – you can read it here.
Are you feeling as if you are under siege in some aspect of your life? How can you tell if the attack is real or imagined? Karin has some advice on how to separate reality from fear and cope with overwhelming emotions.
Gorgeous post from Connie on consciously choosing joy.
Barbara reviews the Breast Cancer Healthline app on her blog this week.
Claudia provides guidance in her latest post on whether to go the chemo-port or IV route.
Crucial information from Siobhan on Breast Density, and why you need to be aware of it.
A feline-themed post from Audrey this week.
Kudos to JoAnn who is continuing to maintain her writing streak for the month of October.
It’s important to be responsible for your actions, yet many of us take it to a harmful place, which complicates your healing emotionally from cancer, according to Stephanie‘s latest post.
An honest look at dwelling in the black hole of depression from AnnMarie this week. See also Sue‘s post on the topic of mental health.
Great post from Ilene on the ongoing legacy of research participation.
I’m in awe of the quality of scientific reporting by Cathy on her blog – this week’s topic is Nutrigenomics.
And finally, this week’s writing prompt, inspired by Carolyn‘s latest post, Appropriately confident: what are YOU really good at? You may like to write about it on your own blog, or simply leave a comment below.
Until next week,
Yours with much love always

Hi Marie Thanks so much for including Being Dense this week. I look forward every week to reading the blogs you select. I have been busy today sorting wardrobe space and cupboards – haven’t felt like like doing any of it since post Breast Cancer so it feels great to have de-cluttered and get a little more organised. Just spotted your weekly round up and thrilled to in the mix this week. Wishing you a happy, healthy and productive week. Best regards Siobhán x

Thank YOU Siobhan for your tireless work in raising awareness of this – I hadn’t a clue about it until I started to hear the facts from you. You are doing important work and I know it isn’t easy to be a lone voice but you are making a difference!

Thanks so much Marie for the mention of my #AppropriatelyConfident post (inspired by the very long Twitter feed of the same name over at Dr. Jen Gunter’s site. I found the responses to her twitter question so inspiring (and not just the heroic-accomplishment ones, but the quiet everyday honest acknowledgements of confidence reported by ‘regular’ women. I’m less and less inspired by mountain-climbing/record-setting feats of success these days, but utterly mesmerized by ordinary people managing to take small steps confidently…

I hadn’t come across this hashtag until I read your post and I loved the idea too. I really love what you say about the ordinary everyday heroic bravery of people – I feel just the same. It reminds me of that quote on courage not roaring but being that still quiet voice that says I’ll try again tomorrow.
