Weekly Round Up

Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below.

I start this week’s round-up with a powerful testament to friendship and loss – beautifully and movingly written by Stacey following the death of her friend, Beth.

In the last several years, I’ve come to accept death as the natural end to life but I haven’t become inured to or at all comfortable with suffering and premature death. And yet I know it continues and will continue. The changes the advocacy community is catalyzing are real but too slow for many people I have come to know and love.

Jo issues a plea to keep Kadcylca and other life-saving drugs on the NHS. Please consider sharing this with your own social networks.

Susan shares a proud Momma moment on her blog.

Amy has created an excellent Storify on race, cancer, and health disparities.

Beth Gainer reflects back on the medical care she received throughout treatment.

Super post by Stephanie on the different aspects of stress which accompanies a diagnosis of a life-threatening illness.

Both Rosemary and Rebecca capture perfectly the feeling of scanxiety at mammogram time – a feeling that never goes away.

Liza reports back from her attendance at the 2017 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) annual meeting.

An excellent post by Lisa Thompson on the what-ifs of treating ductal carcinoma in-situ (DCIS). See also Dr Attai‘s post on active surveillance for DCIS this last month.

Nancy announces the publication of her new ebook, Facing Your Mastectomy & Making Reconstruction Decisions.

Becky shares information on a new app which she thinks might be useful for those going through treatment.

Catherine updates us on the latest happenings in her life.

Lisa posts a review of  Siddhartha Mukherjee’s book, “The Gene: An Intimate History”.

Elaine reports on the results of a new trial of atezolizumab, an immune drug in the treatment of breast cancer.

It’s been wonderful to read more on Helen’s experience at Sargood, a resort custom-built for those with spinal injuries.

Yvonne shares a charming story on putting down roots and watching them grow.

Audrey grieves the loss of her mother in words that will resonate deeply with those of us who miss our own mothers too.

A thought-provoking blog by Elizabeth reflecting on risks and sharing some memories of her recent trip to Cambodia.

Finally this week, our dear friend Jan, has asked me to let you know how she is doing – unfortunately it’s not so good, so please send your prayers and healing thoughts her way.

I had another seizure a few weeks ago. It may be from scarring in the brain.  I will know in another week about what it might be once the detailed images come in.  Please let my blogger friends know. It is too hard to type much. Thanks!  Much love to you all.

Until next week,

Yours with love
