I’ve decided to repost a poem I wrote last month. It’s not about health of cancer but it’s about how blindsided I have been due to some political events in the U.K and US. Hello, my name is Amy Schnitzler and I’m 27 years old recently diagnosed with metastatic disease. I’m sharing a post I wrote, not specifically about cancer, tho cancer is certainly relevant. This post actually pertains to commorbidiy with mental health issues, which make dealing with the cancer even more difficult in many ways. I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only person out there who is dealing with mental illness alongside cancer. Cancer rips the floor from underneath you. If that floor was shaky to begin with due to issues like depression, bi-polar disorder, eating disorders, anxiety, general self loathing… the cancer journey is colored somehow differently. I want those who struggle in this manner to know they’re not alone. The mind is a powerful tool in the facilitation of healing. To those of you struggling with cancer and mental illness, or either issue in isolation, I believe in your power to overcome.

Difficult choice for me but I do like this simple (but I believe powerful) awareness message for condition. The graphic is one of those reverse psychology messages which seems to have worked. This has been a strange year for me, blog-wise. I’ve been able to write only a handful of original posts this year because I’ve been working on another big project since January; instead, each week I’ve been rerunning a favourite from my archived collection of 600+ articles.
One of the few originals I loved writing this past year was based on a story told to me by a woman who facilitates a support group for female heart patients. Her theme of the classic women’s Type E Personality (“Everything To Everybody”) may sound familiar to your readers next time they’re tempted to put everybody else’s needs ahead of their own.
