Weekly Round Up: The Mother’s Day Edition
Time for this week’s round-up of the best of the blog posts which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Don’t forget if you have written a post which you would like readers to see, just leave a comment below. It’s a Mother’s Day weekend for many – Beth has her first mother/daughter talk with Arielle about what happened to make Mommy’s breasts uneven; Jen has been lobbying legislators to sign on to the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act “before Mother’s Day, as a gift to moms (and their kids) everywhere”; Nancy shares 11 things she misses about her Mom; Renn shares a link to her friend Kim’s “complicated” Mother’s Day story; Uzma writes a poignant post on how motherhood and cancer don’t mix; Claudia reflects on the legacy of her mothering skills; and Darryle shares her own bitter-sweet thoughts on what the day means to her. Elsewhere in the blogosphere… Battle Against the Bullshit is Karen‘s latest post on Lisa Lynch, who died, age 33 of cancer. The Cancer Curmudgeon has been writing about shoes and vigilance. I always feel less alone in my own struggles when I read Elizabeth‘s blog and this week was no exception. Check out Susanne’s fundraiser for METAvivor. Gayle has been on a pink ribbon purge. Ann shares highlights from her recent SXSW experience, and Susan shares her Living Beyond Breast Cancer conference experience. The Breast Investigators examine the research on soy and breast cancer. A warm welcome back to the blogosphere to Diane. Rachel provides a helpful checklist for preparing for a mastectomy. Loved Renee‘s glimpse into the life of the real Renee and her reminder to stop comparing ourselves to others:
All we see of others is the outside view and that is the view we compare ourselves to…
A thought-provoking post by Knot on what cancer takes – and what it leaves behind. Chemo-brain features in several blogs this week – Lisey writes of baking a cake on chemo brain; Caroline proposes that chemo brain actually starts with diagnosis, while Teresa offers some tech suggestions to overcoming cognitive issues. Eileen shares a heart-warming video about a therapy dog. Jamie is getting her groove back with running after cancer. Debbie marks World Ovarian Cancer Day. Katy reflects on her five-year cancer remission date. Two-time cancer survivor Deirdre Wilcox shares her Fresh Chapter story. Practical tips from Catherine on starting a podcast. Jan poses a pertinent question: “Without knowing the best treatment, how can we be sure we maximize our lifespan, with the best quality of life?” Finally this week, I leave you with a picture from Yvonne of the Seasoned Sistah blog, mainly because summer seems to have deserted us here in Ireland and I am tired of looking out at the rain.
Until next week,
Keep on blogging.
Yours with love
Marie xxx
Hi Marie, I am getting the best Mother’s Day gift ever. Yesterday my younger daughter arrived here in Osaka, Japan (we moved here from France a few months ago on an expat contract) and my elder daughter is arriving tonight.
Last week my spouse and I were in Thailand (25th wedding anniversary) Some pictures here: http://thefranco-americanflophouse.blogspot.jp/2015/05/thailand.html
