Medicine X. I am really here!
I have to keep pinching myself to make sure I am not dreaming. I am finally here in beautiful (gosh it is beautiful) Palo Alto for the Medicine X conference. Before I enter full on conference mode, I had a nice relaxing day today preparing for my talk on Saturday and having lunch with the beautiful Jan. It worked out so nicely that we could meet. Today happened to be the day that Jan was receiving her treatment at Stanford Medical Center so we could spend some precious time together.
This picture was taken at a nearby restaurant. Isn’t it lovely? It captures the joy of friendship (who says you can’t make real friends online?!) We have both had a rough time since we last met in Ireland three years ago, so to see Jan looking so well and hear how well her treatment is working for her was so wonderful. That’s why I am looking so happy in this picture. The memory of today will be something I will treasure always.
It indeed was a very special time together. I just glowed during treatment thinking about our lunch together earlier that day and our forever friendship. It’s something I never want to forget. I am sure you, Marie, will do a wonderful job with your talk and many listeners will be inspired. Enjoy the rest of your conference and trip. xoxo jan

Marie, I am catching up on my blog reading. I am so glad that you made it to sunny California. It looks like you are having a marvelous time and I am so appreciative of the work you are doing to put cancer in a personal perspective.
