Celebrating Social Media Day #SMDay
It’s here! It’s the fifth International Social Media Day – an event launched in 2010 as a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes. Each year, thousands of people organize hundreds of meetups across the globe. From Australia to the Philippines, all the way to Sri Lanka and Morocco, countries come together every June to participate in this global movement.
Those of you who know me, know what a social media evangelist I am. I’ve written and spoken at many events on its transformative power in healthcare. Every day is social media day as far as I am concerned!
Tomorrow I will give a talk at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer in Adelaide, South Australia, on the topic of how we tell our stories online. I will speak about how important it is to create a space where we can tell our stories, even if, or rather especially if, they don’t fit the conventional narrative expected of us. The more stories we can share, the more we can enrich our community of storytellers. For that reason, I want to curate a list of the stories told through your blogs. So if you haven’t already done so, check out my list here.
Sending you all a great big virtual hug on this day – I am so happy that social media has brought us together as a community of shared concern and interests; a community that cares.
