Weekly Round-Up

girl_with_lassoTime for this week’s round-up of the best of the blogs which I’ve read over the past week. These are the posts that have moved me, taught me something, inspired me, and which I’ve wanted to share with you. Remember, if you have written or read a post recently which you would like me to share with readers, then please leave a comment below.

One of the things, among the very many things, that I love about blogging, is when something one of us has written sparks a train of thought in someone else, and they expand on it in their own blog. Anne Marie has done just that this week with her own weekly wrap up and The Scarcastic Boob has expanded on my new normal post with her own unique take.

Nancy’s latest post on taking the time to grieve our losses speaks to me at a deep level. I seem to have written such a lot about loss on my own blog since I started it – even more so since losing my mother and suffering several miscarriages over the past couple of years.  I have learned that grief doesn’t stick to a set timetable – it is a process that takes time, but society often pushes us to be over the grief by some imposed time frame. We aren’t always allowed the time we need to fully grieve. Being able to take that time through blogging has been immensely healing for me – knowing that others understand this process is also part of the healing.

Of course, finding support through these tough times is so important and this is the topic that Jenn is focusing on this week in her blog.

Nancy also writes about our reluctance as a society to face up to death – a theme echoed on Elizabeth’s blog:

In the end we are all going to die.  Some sooner than later. Some by the hand of another (or an accident), some by illness, some by “natural causes.”  And yet, even though we know that, we are spooked by the idea of it, and many seem unable to handle the idea of an illness that has been labelled as a “killer.”

I thought of Nancy’s post again when I read Eileen’s latest thoughts on the beauty of sadness. If we could choose not to feel loss, sadness and grief, we would I am sure forego the experience. However, to quote the writer, Pearl S. Buck, there is an alchemy in sorrow. It can be transmuted into wisdom, which, if it does not bring joy, can yet bring happiness.

Debbie touches on another of my favorite themes this week – creativity – and specifically the theme of finding poetry in cancer. And speaking of creativity, I just love Phillipa’s five stickie plan – a fun alternative to writing those to-do lists!

Yvonne has been writing up a storm this week, so much so that I couldn’t pick just one of her posts to showcase here.  So check out her amazing blog time to consider the lilies (which is sporting a gorgeous new typeface) to read her latest posts.

So what else has been happening in the blogosphere?

Let me introduce you to Victoria, an American living in Paris and whose intriguingly titled blog,The Franco-American Flophouse is one I am looking forward to following.

Susan is advocating that we become more aware of the environmental causes of breast cancer while Kathi has a special Valentine’s wish this year.  Elaine is still writing her haiku each day; The Pink Underbelly is off on an adventure in NYC,  and there are exciting developments going on in Kim’s world.

Finally, I leave you with a quote on Liza’s blog on being disruptive:

I have learned as an activist, sometimes you must be disruptive to be noticed.  Only when you are noticed can you be heard.

~Regina Holliday

Here’s to a thoroughly disruptive week ahead for all of us!

Until next week.

Yours with love
