Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge Day 24 #HAWMC
Day 24 of the WEGO Health Activist Writer’s Month which I have signed up for – a month dedicated to the art of writing about health.
Today’s writing prompt:
Health Mascot. Give yourself, your condition, or your health focus a mascot. Is it a real person? Fictional? Mythical being? Describe them. Bonus points if you provide a visual!
Ever since I was a small child and my imagination was fired by the mythological story of Diarmuid and Gráinne, I have loved the figures of Celtic legend. So, it was to these that I turned for inspiration for today’s writing task.
I have chosen as my mascot, Airmid, also called Airmeith, the Celtic goddess of healing. The daughter of physician, Diancecht, she was a member of the Tuatha De Danaan, the most ancient race of deities in Ireland and just as they did, she had great magical powers. When the Goddess Danu first created the Tuatha De Danaan, she made sure that its members were very powerful gods, filled with great wisdom and skilled in every possible area of expertise.
Airmid had four brothers: Miach, Cian, Cethe, and Cu, who shared her love of the healing arts, and helped her build the Well of Slaine, also called the Well of Health, created to restore life to warriors killed during battle. The wounded warrior would be dipped into the well and life would return making him fit for battle.
When people invoked Airmid’s spirit they sought guidance from her and asked that her knowledge would help them to pass through troubled times.
Makes me want to learn more about your legends! Perfect choice.

Having toured Ireland, I’m fascinated with Celtic legends. Thanks for sharing this goddess with us. What a perfect pick as a mascot for those of us who need healing (i.e., all of us). xxx

In my former position as part of a team building exercise i asked everyone to identify a comic book charecter they would associate with as their alter ego and asked for the explanation of why s/he was the choice. It was a very revealing exercise.

I love the image of the wounded warrior being dipped into the well and life returning, but not so much the making him fit for battle again part! Seems like there could be many trips back to that well…
