Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge Day One
April 1st and day one of the WEGO Health Activist Writer’s Month which I have signed up for – a month dedicated to the art of writing about health.
I’ve been looking forward to this for the past few weeks and I’ve been smugly thinking this won’t be much of a challenge as I write every day … but yet here I am on day one..and I haven’t done my homework assignment!
Luckily for me the rules are flexible:
- Write something every day of April. Note: You don’t have to use our Prompts (remember that those are fun suggestions) but you should try to post something every day.
- You have 2 “Get Out Of Post Free” days if you need – so use them wisely.
- Share your posts with us and with fellow posters.
- Have fun and be creative!
So, after a day spent writing an article on healthcare social media for an online publication, my brain is too exhausted to come up with anything creative for today’s prompt – which is a shame, because it’s a very interesting one:
Pretend you’re making a time capsule of you and your health focus that won’t be opened until 2112. What’s in it? What would people think of it when they found it?
What will the world will be like 100 years from now? Will this cancer scourge be a thing of the past? I can only imagine that in 2112 people will look back and shake their heads in disbelief at the numbers of people who died from cancer and the horrors of treatment.
Ok, so day 1 of the challenge is complete and while I didn’t write the post I wish I’d been able to write, I did write something (as per the rules) and I am off now to read what others more organized than I am today, made of this challenge.
How about you? What would you put in your health focused time capsule? I really would love to hear your thoughts!

Would you like to join me in the Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge (HAWMC)?
It’s not too late to join in the challenge!
Well, that’s an interesting question Marie. I think my time capsule would hold the secret to making the leap from Phase 1 Trials to Cure. I learned that only 10 percent of Phase 1 Clinical Trials make it past Phase 3. And I also heard we’ve known how to cure cancer in rats for a long time (though I wonder about that one; how long do rats live anyway, so do we really know we’ve cured them?)
But anyway, my point is, there’d be new research models or something different about the research that’s been going on and on and on and on so that we finally stop spinning our wheels. I know this all sounds negative and not appreciative of the progress that’s been made. But let’s face it, with cancer anyway, if G-d forbid it metastasizes, we don’t have a lot in patients’ corner … the time capsule would have the answers tucked away … the leap from Phase 1 to Cure with every cancer. I guess I kinda stole from you as you were talking about a cure for cancer being what the future holds. 🙂

Hi Rachel, I do think that 100 years from now there will be, if not a cure, though I really do think that is possible, but a way of managing this disease. Great points in your comment!

Congratulations for joining this challenge, Marie. I almost signed up, and then chickened out because I wasn’t sure if I could keep up with the post-a-day requirement. The day’s not over at least in California (although it is April Fool’s Day), so maybe I will change my mind, seeing that you have joined.
I would put in the time capsule as my health focus that I would limit my consumption of wine and soy products and other phytoestrogens because of my ER positive cancer status. In 100 years this may be totally passe, as personalized medicine becomes a reality. If I were alive then, I wouldn’t have to guess what I need to avoid and what I can eat and drink without guilt. It will all be laid out for me. That’s what I foresee, anyway.
Thanks for the great post and the incentive to get writing.

I’d agree with you Marie, if I was in a time capsule they’d just shake their heads in 2112 and wonder why? Not much help to you on this one, but it’s a difficult one.

I think you are so right in how the future medicos are going to view cancer therapies. I believe there is an essence to that illness, and when it is unlocked, WOW, what a shift we will see.
Congrats on joining the challenge, I am going to have to keep my wits about me to keep up with you and Yvonne!
I gave half an inkling to joining myself but I lost today to 12 hours of travel, getting home from the boonies of Alberta. And I am off on a health care adventure in 12 days which is going to consume a lot of my energy later in April. (I am doing a 4 week term of respite elder-care for a friend’s mother. I’ve never done such a thing before, but I think it will be very interesting.)

I have to admit, while I signed up for this writer’s challenge after hearing about it from you, I decided not to do it this time. I am just going in way too many directions right now and not real fast at what I do. But I look forward to your posts – to seeing what you do with this challenge Marie. You are a perceptive smart cookie and gr8 writer. So keep those posts a comin’
Best,
