Marcia Cross has “great hope” for Michael Douglas
The actress, Marcia Cross, best known for her role as Bree Van de Kamp on Desperate Housewives, was understandably devastated last year when her husband, Tom Mahoney was diagnosed with throat cancer. Fast forward one year later and Tom has finished his treatment and is back to good health again.
Cross has been speaking recently about her delight at her husband’s return to health and how actor Michael Douglas, recently diagnosed with throat cancer, can draw hope from her husband’s recovery. In an Access Hollywood interview, she speaks of the need for us to shift our focus to the prevention of cancer and to look to the environmental causes of the disease.

So glad to hear that Marcia’s husband is doing well, particularly for the sake of their two small children.

I think it is a good thing that she came out and said the part about Michael Douglas being able to take hope from her husband’s recovery. Seeing how well Tom is doing now a year on is inspiring

This is the classic thing said to cancer patients – so and so had the exact same cancer as you and now they are “cured” – everyone’s cancer is different – it depends on many factors, stage of disease for example. So it is not right for Marcia to compare in this way.

While I agree with Adele that everyone’s cancer is different and we shouldn’t draw comparisons, I listened carefully to this interview and Marcia was careful to say she didn’t know enough details about Douglas’ cancer but that she would have hope, given her own husband’s recovery, that he will recover to. She couched in careful terms.

The problem with something like throat cancer, is that it is usually diagnosed at a later stage, unlike say breast cancer which has a better chance of being caught early.
